exhaust valve replacement

currently replacing exhaust valves on ser #59777 1941 9-n, i have question regarding the current replacement straight stem non rotating valves. the replacement type avail has no shoulder under the valve head for the valve guide to butt against(the orig style both straight and mushroom style used this shoulder for the valve guide and spring assembly to bear assembled spring pressure) therefore you cant bench assemble these then slide them back thru the lifter bore and reinstall the horseshoe valve guide retainer as was done originally, you have to piece these into place. does this style of valve rely on the horseshoe retainer to function and hold valve spring pressure the same as the valve shoulder on both the original style straight and mushroom style valves?

I also had concerns about the new valves not having a shoulder. John Smith commented that the new ones work just as well as the old ones. John may be the best Ford 8N mechanic alive. His work is perfect from what I have seen. If John says it will work then it will work. I recently rebuilt two 8 N engines and used the replacement vales. Both run fantastic. Don't worry about the no shoulder.
