Experience with Ebay steering wheels?

Have any of you gents bought a new steering wheel off Ebay? I'm wondering what the difference is between them and the ones you can get from OEM or Steiner? They are, of course, cheaper on Ebay. But I'd like to know why.

The cheaper steering wheels are covered with plastic instead of rubber. I like the cheaper plastic ones myself as the never make your hands black like the rubber ones do. Also depends on the source for the price, my 2 cents.

I bought one from a large Ebay seller and the first one I got did not fit my steering shaft. The bore was .027" undersize. I contacted the seller and he replaced it without any questions. The second one fit the shaft and is still looking good after being outside for 1 1/2 years now.

Likely the same -- they are all made in China, Taiwan, or India anyway. If you must have an "original", have your old one recovered.

You have lots of time so why not just get yours recovered. I would have had I known it could be done. Just adds to the mystique.

I'm not having my recovered because it's dented from where the tree fell and hit the previous owner and the steering wheel. It's part of the story he gave me, so I don't want to straighten it out, just take it off and hang it on the wall.

I too bought one off of Ebay and am happy with it. The old one was a challenge to get off though. Does the original one, without the rubber covering have any value?

If your not getting one recovered I suggest you call Mike Brunk at steel wheel ranch. His prices are good and he will get the right one. I have bought lots from him and he always delivers. Better than EBay.

I have bought three off Ebay. Got them for less than 25 dollars with the shipping combined. They were jus like the ones the local IH dealer has for 50 bucks.
Is that H running yet? Spend that money on getting it running. Why have the best looking lawn ornament in town?

The cheapest I've seen them is for about $35-40 with shipping, but I'll keep an eye peeled.

I'm really really close to "Fire it up" day. The last parts I'm waiting on is the radiator hoses. Then I have to buy some gas.

What I need now more than anything else is time. I haven't had much time to actually work on the tractor. Sure I post alot, but I do that from work mostly (your tax dollars at work), or late at night. I'm really hoping to get a good day or two to put it back together this long holiday weekend.

LOL - That could be about the most expensive part of the project!

I have bought two steering wheels from eBay thus far, I think around $30 w/shipping for each. I'm happy with them and they fit right on the shaft.

Just check the feedback and be sure it's a high number and 99% positive or better and I'll bet you won't have trouble.

I prefer to repair the originals, the new reproductions don't look enough like the originals for me. I use JB weld or whatever to fill the cracks and voids and then reshape with a file and sand. My SH wheel was sprung so I bought a used one and repaired it.
