f-11 loader pressure setting

what is the best way to adjust the pressure setting on a F-11 loader? pretty sure my pump is bad as the loader raises itself but wont pick up much, say maybe a 55 gallon barrel full of corn is about it. the pressure screw is in all the way but out just far enough to get the cap on. i have added washers behind the spring before but not on this loader. have a new pump i picked up and am thinking i should probably back out the pressure screw but am wondering where to set it at. basically i want to use this loader for round bales that weight around 1400 lbs. just wondered if there is any special thing to do, or just set it till it wont lift a bale and call it good.

Likely as not you won"t be able to steer it, or will be very hard to with that much weight on the front end.
If you have another tractor with better hydraulics on it I would persue a loader for it if the funds are available. Otherwise the pressures (500-800PSI) those old IH"s had your at about the limit on the pump when it was new.

I guess you're talking about a Farmhand F-11 loader, and having used quite a few of them, from oldest to newest, in my opinion 1400 lb. round bales are at the upper end of the loaders safe capacity limits, depending on the tractor it's mounted on. I always thought that the hydraulic pressure relief valve was a means of protecting the hydraulic system and the structure of the loader, rather than trying to increase the lift capacity by turning in the screw or shimming the spring with washers. Farmhand became a part of the Agco line several years ago, so I would think an Agco dealer could make adjustments, or give you specs to make the adjustments yourself and keep the loader operating within it's safe limits. In my estimation, a 55 gallon barrel full of shelled corn would only weigh about 360-370 lbs., plus the weight of the barrel, so I'd say your pump is definitely suspect. I've always felt that the F-11's greatest advantage over other loaders was the extra lift height capacity it has versus pretty much any other narrow fame loader, but it lacks the stiff frame of a quick-attach loader, making it a lot less stable lifting real heavy loads. Just my opinion.
