F20D, stops moving forward.

F20D, Works great for about an hour and then with very little warning just stops moving forward. Hydraulics still work and clutch pedal goes up and down but feels a, bit disconnected... Left to, cool down for a couple hours.... Drives OK again.
Doesn't FEEL like clutch is slipping just not connected.

Have you cleaned your internal transmission screen & replaced your spin on hydraulic filter recently?

F20D is a geared transmission. Don't know that I have ever heard those symptoms on a geared transmission.

Oops... I thought I saw F<U><s></s>X<e></e></U>20 which is a powershift transmission. None of my suggestions would cause that problem on an F20 which is a geared transmission. I agree with Winston... don't think I have ever heard of that on a geared transmission before.

I very recently replaced the spin on filter with ofluid change, but , whilst the user handbook referred to the screen as well - Im buggered if I know where it is and the handbook certainly isnt letting on -- are you able to guide me?/

In the event mine is a geared transmission - and I do have to select ratios annd use a clutch -- where would the clutch cylinder be hiding - if indeed one exists!! The clutch pedal appears to simply operate a rod that dissappears into the form of the transmission housing - you will realise I have no workshop manual from my ignorance !

No clutch cyliner. The linkage to the throw out bearing is all mechanical. Should have around 5/8" free play at top of pedal.[attachment=0]100_6457.JPG[/attachment

Your screen is behind that 3 bolt flange that is circled in red. The picture is an Fx24D but pretty sure your screen will be in the same place.

I cant locate the screen I fear - woudl it not apply to a manual clutch, do I only have the canister filter ( or is that indeed the 'screen'.)?
Would shortage of fluid have any bearing on forward motion in this instance?
Is it possible that fluid can leak onto the clutch plate and cause slippage - I got a slight smell of hot fluid shrotly before it stopped going forward.
Perhaps a bearing on the lay shaft .
It is SO weird that is goes from fine to f***** in about ten yards ! and after a cooling off period ( couple hours ) its absolutely fine again !
It does seem to eat fluid.
Will anything be revealed if I lift the hatch on the footplate?

As far as I know all models of these old yanmars have an internal screen.

If it is eating fluid, you need to find where that fluid is going. Got to be evident somewhere. Is there any kind of a plug underneath the clutch housing? Look at #4 on this attached drawing. This is not your model but just showing where a possible plug could be that might cause your clutch housing to hold fluid and therefore getting on your clutch. That is really revealing - is it poss to obtain view/ purchase more exploded diagrams - especially if it leads us to 'the screen'
If I removed #4 is it fair to say there should be no fluid ?
woudl the prescence of fluid - in your opinion - lead to these symptoms?

Hoye would have drawings of your F20. I do not.

<B><s></s>"If"'<e></e></B>your #4 is right under the clutch housing, then there should be no fluid in there. Again,<B><s></s> "If"<e></e></B>a great deal of fluid is in the clutch housing then, yes, it might cause clutch slippage.

Heavy on the word <B><s></s>"If" <e></e></B>in everything I said above.
