Whats the betting that someone has put a high pressure safety Valve in a low pressure tractor????? This is exactly what happens, the top cover is not strong enough (plus other parts)....John

Must have been like a grenade went off under the seat eh? Too bad I put so much into the 35 diesel, I would have had the pump and other guts to fix this one. He is a bit far from me nowdays, a few years ago it would have took a ferry ride home. Gosh the price is right and that one would wrap up my collection of fergies... I wonder what he calls 'local delivery'???

I've already got to many MF50/MH50 model tractors (if that's possible!) to go after that one but I hope someone saves it. Tony, you mentioned a ferry ride...did you used to live in the Plattsburgh area?

Yes, in a way, my mother was born off the 'military turnpike, beyond Plattsburgh, sold it a couple years ago. I farmed on the other side of the Adirondacks. Easiest and cheapest way to Vermont was the bridges to Alburg and the St,Albans, which is about where this 40 is if I remember right.... it has the tall tires too, not the el cheapo 24 or 28's, and power adjust rims... there is a nicer one closer to me, in the weeds, never moves, no one ever responds to my notes. Next time I will leave money on the barn door? Incase they just can't read my writing??

I"m sure I"ve gone past your mothers place then at some point...been up and down the turnpike many times. If you have ever been to the tractor and engine show at the Clinton County fairgrounds in the last 10-12 years we may have almost crossed paths.
Good luck getting that F40 in the weeds. It can be frustrating watching one go to ground and the owner won"t let it go.

I live just up the street from this tractor. Drove it home. Runs great lots of power, I have not checked, but I think it has the high compression engine. The tractor has been in VT for it's entire life.

The engine is used in other tractors and was always known to have plenty power (for most ppl) some always wanted more of course. When you say the high compression Engine, did you mean the High Altitude Engine, that is a different compression to the standard tractor, but it should not be used below 4,000feet above sea level or it will be harmed. These tractors always seem to be well liked unlike some other models.....John

I am very happy you bought that tractor. I couldn't see myself going up and down every mountain on route 89, and then the ones on 91 all the way to Brattleboro, I'd pay 1500 just to not do that trip.... how's that pump look? did you fill the busted piece with something to keep the rain out?
