Fall chisel plowing the corn stalks.

I like to fall chisel the corn stalks that I don't run the cattle on.

This Wilbeck chisel covers them pretty well.

Subsoil the bean stubble to leave residue on top. Chisel the corn stalks to help get rid of the stalks.

That's my method of tillage, what do you guys use?

I use an old DMI chisel plow with just the points in the bean ground, and moldboard the corn ground. My "big horse" is a White 2-135 so I don't have many options, but works on the small acreage I run.

we had lime spread this fall, everything got chiseled under.

I don't use any tillage in the fall. I strip-till ahead of the corn planter in the spring and drill all the beans no-till.

Not to change the subject, but how did the lights work on your combine this year? I think you were the one having some issues with only half of the lights wanting to work last year.

Boy that looks good. I wish I had an implement like that and enough horses to pull it. I run field cultivator with harrows tied up over bean ground and moldboard cornstalks.

Nothing! Strickly no-till here. Sand, muck, and clay. Been doing it for almost 20 years and yes you can sucessfully no-till clay.

Molboard plow the cornstalks in the fall, last 3 years I haven't touched the bean stubble. Used to chisel plow it. Oh, I don't chop the stalks, just plow behind the combine.

In spring once with the field cultivator and plant. Well, put down anhydrous in spring usually, so that is a sorta tillage pass, but not really.

We do the same, rip the bean ground, disc/chisel the corn ground. The Landoll chisel we have looks like yours and works good also. Incorporates the stalks well and gets them going towards degrading well. A pass in the spring with a field cultivator and basket and a way we go!

I don't chop stalks either.

IH heads do a pretty good job of chopping them up.

White disc/chisel after chopping cornstalks. Disc assembly is on a separate cylinder so they can be raised out of the ground on bean ground.

You fooled me. I sure thought you'd chopped those stalks. That's good! Saves one pass over the field.
