farmall 340 (pulling)

I have a farmall 340 that I am getting ready to put in the pulls, I hear people talk about putting a hotter coil & wires on to get better performance so I was wondering how this worked?

I would also like some ideas on how people mount there wheel weights, somthing easy.

Thanks

IF the tractor is running well now, a hot coil and large wires will not make any noticable change in HP for the money you invest.

Weights can be mounted via threaded rod or make a bracket to fit the inside of the weight, look down a few post there was a topic on this.

I was wondering what classes are you thinking to pull with this? I haven't seen this tractor do well here in the northeast.

Here is a nother shot of my 400. I use 3/4" threaded rod 26" long double nutted to the center. I also use 1" pipe cut to 4" and 8" lenght to take up the space in lighter classes. This setup also allows you to use half weights. Cheap and easy.

Thanks everyone for your input.

I'am hoping to enter the 340 in 5,6 & 7000lbs classes, do ya have any idea why the 340 did not pull so good?
I'am new to this pulling game, what do you think is a real good pulling tractor for these weight class?

You can try the 340 in the lighter classes it might do well if you can keep the nose down. As soon as you hit 5000 its hard to keep up with the JD A & G, Farmall M, 400, 450, 460 & 560, and many other tractors bigger than the 340. The old rule of "There is no replacement for displacement" comes in to play when you pass the 5000 mark. On the other hand tractor pulling is about experimenting, you do not see many 340 period, try it. A few guys told me my 400 was a bad choice, now they pray I leave it home. Whether your winning or loosing at least your keep a piece of history alive and enjoying it.
