Farmall 350 Steering Gear Removal

The steering on the 350 is pretty loose so we were going to rotate the gear to a less worn spot. On the other Farmall the gear just comes out and you can move it to another spot. We can't get this one out. Are we able to jack up the front end and hit the shaft with a punch to get the the gear loose or is there something we are missing that they added on the 50 series?

Thanks,
Noah

Lifting the front from the frame rails or farther back is needed. there is no difference in process. Use a soft brass drift or aluminum for a striking buffer. loosen the nut to the top of the threads so things don;t come all the way apart. warming the gear can't hurt, but not boiling the grease/oil. make sure the ball bearing on the end of the worm is good. Replace with a heavy deep groove bearing only. Jim

Ah, i never seen one that tight, unless the splines on the shaft/flat gear are damaged or not mating, but that flat gear is very hard, so i cant see that being worn very much!

Thanks for the info guys. Hopefully will have more time and can take a closer look tomorrow.
