Farmall 656 Overheating Problem

Need some advice....my 656 is overheating...
I have put a new waterpump on it and a new thermostat. Radiator is new, and has new coolant in it. What is next?
How do I figure this out......there is no water in the oil.

You probably have a head gasket leak and exhaust is leaking into your antifreeze. BTDT.

from what you have done, first thing that comes to mind is thermostat. New does not necessarily mean good, especially if imported. I would remove thermostat and test by putting in a pot of water, then heating water to see if it opens. A simple candy thermometer will tell at what temp.
Another test is to run tractor without thermometer and see what happens. Good luck.

Are you absolutely certain it is overheating?

My Oliver 1850 suddenly began pegging the temp gage after running 10 minutes or so. Problem turned out to be a failing temperature sender. A new sender fixed the "overheating" problem.

Given all the work thats been done if its boiling over that would be my guess. Some of those leaks don't show up until operating temp is reached.

Gas or Diesel engine?

If its the gas version you may be running the carburetor too lean. Also check the timing. Hal

If it is boiling and extreme it is internal. If it just spits coolant it might be too full. It should be about 1/2 the way to the cores when cool. Jim

It is a diesel. It is mot boiling over. Just the temp gauge is going to the hot range.

Then start looking for a cracked head , cracked block or leaking head gskt. If the rad is clean and ya have a new T stat and water pump and no bottom hose colapsen . I would remove the T stat unhook the water pump and fill with water to the top of where the T stat sets on a COLD engine and start it , once it has smoothed out nail the throttle wide open and if it pushes water out then ya have a problem . If nothing blows out then change the gauge and see what happens.

have you tried a new radiator cap?
Bad gasket or weak spring will let water out.

Have you checked the temp with a temp gun to rule out the sender ? If its not boiling over I would suspect the temp sender.

Change the sender.
