Farmall A-1 Hydraulic Question

I recently purchased a 1954 Farmall Super A-1 with a cultivator. I noticed you can only lower the cultivator with the engine running. My question is, is it safe to leave the cultivator in the up position when not in use? Sure would make it easier to pull start or roll around if needed. Thank you.

lots of equipment you can lock it in the up position , otherwise if kids playing around keep them on the ground

Yes, it's perfectly fine to leave the front and rear lifts in the up position when parked. If they leak down on they're own with the engine shut off, there's something amiss in the hydraulic control box.

Yes, and I still do until this day. It was a carryover from the time when hand lifts were common which would stay up until you let them down. No reason to do that if the tractor was in the shed. The advantage was that the plows would be up if a tractor needed "pulling off", that is we would hook a chain to the front and give it a pull to get it started. You have to remove the plows or cultivators if they have been lowered. Fords and others would leak down, so we just let those plows rest on the ground. I remember seeing BF Avery and a JD I think A with fully mounted cultivators with the lifts in the up position sitting in the shed and certainly they had been there for 20 or more years.
