What is the real purpose for that triangular shaped drawbar extension?

with that plate you can turn a lot sharper with a trailer and what not i use the plate for our old hayrake its just long enuff that rake cant "jack knife and hit the rear tractor tire

It is used for PTO work with trailing implements.
It's needed to get right distant between the drawbar
hitch point and the PTO shaft.

Thanks for the replies! If using it for PTO work, would you mount the extension towards the left side of the drawbar to line up the PTO even though the implement would be off center from the tractor?

The only time we used the bolt on extension was when baling hay.

Considering that the baler places a lot of rocking impact into and away from the tractor when running.

The extension hitched your implement tighter to the tractor and saved a lot of abuse to the swinging draw bar.
