Farmall A ?

My dad gave me this tractor and I am wanting to try and ID it. If I remember right, years ago he told me it was a 1944 A model.
It has a few issues that I need to address.

Hello!

That is an International/Farmall AI. It is a Farmall A with the Industrial package - foot accelerator and square front axle, called the International AI. Much less common than a regular A.

Here is a link to some more information about it.

If you would like to post the serial number so we can figure out what year it is, the serial number tag would be on the inner seat support bracket. Otherwise, you can tell based on the casting date codes and other ways.

Here is an example of what casting date codes look like (this is a Farmall Cub).

See attached picture.

I believe the Farmall A engine casting code is on the magneto side of the block. You will find casting codes on all of the large pieces of the tractor. The numbers you posted are part numbers. So a cast code for September 16 1939 would look like this *9*16*I* IH used letters to reference the year. 1938-H, 1939-I, 1940-J, 1941-K and so on. You have another shot at determining your serial number. Your block if it is original should have the serial number stamped into a flat spot at the top of the block just below #1 spark plug. IH matched the serial number of the engine and chassis on the A,B,BN,and AV tractors. The serial number on the block would be the same as the serial number on the left seat post.
(copied from another post)

Otherwise, you could just take pictures of them and I can decipher them for you.

Good luck!

Great! Thank you for the clear information. Here is the cast code. By this I am assuming its a '41 model?
I'll definitely look for the block serial number soon and discuss with dad if that is the original engine block.
I haven't found any plate on the seat area. Not sure how much modifying dad did in the seat area but think he added the hydraulic system and moved seat backwards.
Thanks again!

Sorry for the late reply,
Yes I would assume it's a '41.
If there was a serial number plate still on, it would be on the back left of the seat support (as you are sitting on the tractor). From the previous pictures it looks like it could be the original seat support, but not for sure as it is hidden.

Good luck!

Started it yesterday, seemed to surge after it warmed up and then it just died. Restarted it, died shortly after. Pulled carb bowl plug and very little fuel came out. Pulled fuel line, small trickle.
Blew back thru the fuel line, sprayed cleaned the tank cap vent holes, removed and cleaned the sediment bowl. Got a good flow from fuel line.
Restarted and drove around 15 minutes. 👍
I'm going to assume some trash in the tank.
It seems to lag when the clutch is let out, , normal governor reaction?
