Hello all. I"ve been lurking on this sight for a while and find the info very helpful. Currently I"m restoring my Farmall B and have been trying to figure out how to remove the final drive to get at the brake band on the left side. I removed the bolts holding it together. What must I do with the gear connection to the differential shaft to get it apart? Thanks for any help

Zeke,

The shafts are splined and will slide apart as the housing is removed. There are dowel pins that hold the housing to the main case after the bolts are removed. Soak with favorite penetrating solution and gently bump the housing at the bottom towards the outside. Then try to wedge any kind of flat, straight, THIN tool between the two housings at the bottom to hold a slight crack open. Then bump the housing gently towards the inside. Keep repeating this procedure widening the crack each time. Do not get too aggressive or you stand a chance of breaking the flange on the final drive housing.

On the left side of the B remove the diff housing at the tranny thats where the brake is. You dont need to remove the final just let it fastened to the diff housing and remove as a unit. You will find out a cherry picker is your bes friend. Depending on your picker you wont need to remove the wheel. Of course take the bolts out of the drawbar and anchor if its there. Now if you are going to replace the seal in the final thats another process.

No need to remove the final the brake is next to the tranny take the diff housing apart there leaving the final fast on the other end.

Got it apart! Got the new brake on and back together. Now the tough side on the left. Any words of wisdom for taking this apart?

I think the seal on the left side is leaking. There is gear oil coming out of the brake housing. How tough is it to repair this seal?
