Farmall B

This is probably a dumb question but did the Farmall B ever come in blue. I have been working on one that has blue for a base paint. It is serial # FAB 36906 which should make it a 1940. I would guess someone painted it blue over the years but I thought I would ask since it is blue on the base coat. Thanks Jeremy

If the factory got a request for blue tractors it would paint them blue. So it is possible to get a factory painted Farmall/IH in most any color. Road commissions, industrial plants, military agencies, and others have done it. JimN

This probably has no bearing on your tractor, but your question brought to mind a story my grandpa told me once. He was in the implement business in central Minnesota and he told me about a guy who brought in a Farmall for a paint job and requested that it be painted blue. Not one to disappoint, he painted it blue and the guy picked it up as happy as could be. That was probably sometime in the 60's or 70's though. Also, I can't remember if it was a B or an H, and my grandpa's not around to ask anymore. Best of luck finding an answer to your question!

I would think if someone wanted it painted blue, IH would have done it for them, but I'm not sure. My John Deere A was originally painted all yellow, I don't know why but that is the color under the green.

I have found blue paint under the red on on implements such as my #31 loader, and I have heard that some of the earlier red paint blends did have some blue in them, so that when the red faded away, the blue then became visible, but I have no proof of that.

I saw 6 Farmall Bs in TX that came from IH painted pink. They were used to pull gang mowers at golf
courses and county clubs.

Are you sure that "pink" was not just faded red paint??

I have an international 504 utility that has blue paint under the red and white. My guess is that it was owned by some city, township or county.
