How big can you go on a 400 or 450 block welding in sleeves? My thought was to build a 6.5 by 4.75. Also can you use the stock rods at that much stroke?
Thanks

A fresh set of billet rods that are strong and clear obstructions.. Cost not a whole lot more than old fatigued rods that have been re-machined and clearances.

Baker can explain it the best but, basically a farmall block deck gets its strength from the originally casted sleeves. When you bore out these sleeves and attempt to weld in larger ones the deck looses its strength to remain true. Baker is an expert in producing sleeved large bore blocks, not many others are.

If you want 450 cubic inches go 4-3/8 x 7.5 stroke this retains the stock sleeve bored to 4-3/8" and is about as bullet proof a engine as they come and can still make 120-150 horse.

(quoted from post at 17:48:58 08/21/13) how much dose some thing like that cost.

Your in the wrong sport if you are asking that question lol!

The crank and billet rods you will have around $4,000 into. For a turn key engine you will have 3 times that into it.
