does head gasket go on plain or with sealer. what is the fix for rear crankshaft seal turning in seal retainer. both of these (seal & retainer are new from IH ). THANKS

The headgasket would be your personal preferance. I know people that have done it both ways and both worked out ok. I would put some antisieze on the head bolts though. Remember to retorque the head after a couple hours of use and lower the torque if you use thread sealer or antisieze on the bolts.
As you have found out, the rear main seals from Case/IH don't fit. [b:675ad9e3af]Check out this site[/b:675ad9e3af], send Rick your retainer and he will mill it out and install a larger OD seal that will be a press fit. He is busy this weekend hosting an event, but shoot him an email to touch base.

On my cub rear seal. I cleaned seal and retainer and put the seal in and put a coat of JB weld on it. worked for me 3 years no drips. Bill

On the head gasket I wire brush both faces with an angle grinder and use copper coat. Probably overkill but no leaks.

and here i thought i was the only one with this problem, i solved it by drilling and tapping the 4 little round casting lugs and putting little tabs to hold the seal in. that allong with some gasket sealer around the perimiter of the seal itself.
