Does any one know if farmall H's came with more than one size first gear? If so,how many teeth? Where might I find them? My first gear seems to be higher than others I pull against. Thanks,Peter

Yes. They were an option. Availability is difficult to assess. The countershaft was milled into a gear for low, and the entire countershaft must be replaced as well as other components. A donor tractor, or complete rear half would be best. The serial number has a suffix (I can't remember what) for the low gear. Search Farmall IH forum for Low gear suffix. JimN

On my M the serial number ended in X6 and that gave me a lower first gear. When I was in second I about matched speed with the other guys in first.
