After about 5 minutes my H dies and I have to wait a while before it starts and runs. Sometimes it will run until I let out the clutch then it dies. Any suggestions?

Two likely scenarios when it stops. No fuel or no spark. Find out which and you are half way there. Post back if you are stuck.

Fuel supply is most likely the problem.
Open the drain in the bottom of the float bowl into a can. it should flow like water through a sweetheart straw for 5 minutes. If it slows in that time there is a restriction. Inlet in tank, strainer in sediment bowl, sediment bowl itself, fuel line, or the strainer at the carb, or needle and seat in the carb. Good luck. JimN

Is the gas cap vented?

Open the petcock or remove the drain plug (whichever you carb has) and see if you have lots clean fuel coming from it. If not, you may have a sticky needle in the carb, a plugged fuel filter, tank, or fuel line. Also make sure your fuel cap is vented. You can get a triple baffle cap for free on www.ihgascap.com

You say awhile but how long is that?? 5 minutes or 30 minutes. If its 30 then maybe a bad condenser if 5 minutes its most likely as the others have said and you have a fuel flow problem

well, if it's vent problem, just leave the gas cap off and let it run for a while..if it doesn't die...you answered that possibility.

I'd place my money on a bad coil...and maybe...just maybe, a bad condenser. Damned old coils cause more grief than anything else. They'll work till they get hot and then will refuse to work until they cool off again.

Well, you've heard all the guessing. Now do it properly - systematically - and first find out which system is at fault.

Checking for a spark when it dies is soooo easy.
Cuts out 50% of the guessing game at one stroke.

Changing the carb for a set of faulty points is just as much a waste of time as changing the complete ignition system for a blocked line or sticking float valve.

Diagnose the fault systematically. Much less expensive and much more satisfying. Another problem will seem easy, next time. But not if you go round guessing cluelessly.
