My '48 h will always start nice, even when cold, but after 45 mins starts to choke and cough and will quit until it cools off. temp gauge doesn't work but block never feels hot. carbs been rebuilt 1 year ago. oil pressure is always good. antifreeze circulates. anybody have any ideas? I need my tractor to run...

Thefirst thing I would check is your coil. Had one last year that did the same thing and the coil was cracked. Something to check.

A bad coil will let the tractor run until the coil gets too hot. Check for spark immediately after it dies, if no spark you have found the problem. Condensor can do about the same thing, but coil is more likely. Could also be fuel flow from the tank to the carb, but that is usually erratic due to stuff floating in the tank. If the outlet is partially plugged, it probably won't run for 45 minutes, but it is something else to check, as is the screen in the inlet to the carb.
