on a M it will be 4 inches . It will have c-248 on the block . if it has c-264 on the block it will be 4.25 if it has c-281 it will be 4.25 and that's it.

My block doesnt have those numbers where that number is supposed to be it has 6722DJ. It is a 51 M according to the serial number.

6722 is a standard M block.....dblair is wrong... If you pull the sleeves out the bore will be larger than 4", You can get a sleeve kit that will make an M a 4" bore and doesn't require the block to be bored....therefore I would estimate the bare block to be around 4.125"......

The numbers right above the oil filter is 6722DJ. The date code to the right of the filter is 9*4*w, which would be sept. 4, 1951. to the left of the filter there is a 4. What other numbers is there that you need to know.

You don't need to know any other numbers. The 6722 is just a regular M block which is a C-248 .....What are your plans? ....stock pistons were 3 7/8", IH makes a kit that will allow you to go up to a 4" bore.....You just pull the old sleeves out and put the new ones in, no boring required. That will put you up to 264cu......You can have your block bored and put farmall 450 sleeves in it, that will allow you to run 4 1/8",which will put you at 281cu......I know a lot of people have done it but im not a fan of running them without sleeves but thats just my opinion

Just trying to find a few cheap ponies. Have a 8060 head milled as far as possible with bigger valves, opened up the carb jets, 450 intake with the runners and head gasketmatched and a k&n filter.

I have a 52 M with c-248; want to rebuild it to run on E-85; can it be bored to handle 450 sleeves and pistons? I have some questions if you are willing to take the time to answer them...I intend to use the tractor for tillage rather than pulling...if that is helpful

thanks...John Shipley

E-85 isn't a good choice for a working tractor. It will dring a LOT more fuel than it will on gasoline.

E-85 is for tree huggers that don't understand fuel consumption and people that want more power per cube but don't care about fuel economy.

John, yes, the 248 can be bored to fit in the 281 sleeve kit,, providing the block is in good condition.

4.255 will be the OD bore for 450 sleeves.

If you want a litle more power, the E85 will gain you some, but forget fuel economy.

I dont think they were really jetted right anyways from the start so rejeting the carb will help in anyengine that isnt getting fuel correctly.

Now, if you mix E85 with pump gas, say 50/50, you still get the power increase as straight E85,,, you will use less and make the same power VS straight E85.

E85 loves compression, more is good, but I would keep the cyl pressure under 220psi at cranking speed so it wont be as hard on the parts as if it had 250 or more for a worker.

Going from the M to the 450 piston setup, you will see a nice gain in power!
Best to order the kit for a Super MTA,,,

so the rod bushings and wrist pin diameter will stay the same as the M at 1.3,,,

BUT,

the 450 uses a .990 pin, which will lighten things up a little bit.

Just get the adapter bushings for a 400 to get the right bushing for the small pin piston.

LOOK FOR FIRECRATER PISTONS!!

You find those, or M&W AP77's and dont look back. Hope this helps. ChadS
