Farmall Super H belt replacement

How do you replace the fan belt on the Super H? It seems very complex to me. It looks as if I have to tear the shroud off and take the blade off. I was wondering if there was an easier way to put a new belt on. It seems like a lot just to replace one belt. Is there an easier way?

Believe it or not, once you get that belt loosened up so that it is free of the pulleys, the belt can be manipulated around the fan blade until it is off. You will say a few nasty words, and you will scrape your knuckles, but that is how it is done.

here is a link to a past topic on belt replacement. the h and m use a threaded water pump pulley, two piece hub. the outer unscrews to loosen the belt

You will be cursing the Engineer by the time you are finished but it is possible. I understand that this method is 4X less work than pulling the radiator.
My 1st hour was getting the slot head set screw loose so I replaced it with a bolt and anti-seize.
On my H the pulley flat to tap on was inside the schroud so it was a real bugger to get a good hit on. I had my helper trying to hold everything from turning from the other side of the tractor.
I ended up heating the pulley with a propane torch before I could get it loose. Not too hot.
Do not overtighten the belt or the water pump will be junk fast and then you will have some real work to do. I think that the book calls for 3/4" belt flex.
While you are looking at the tractor I would check to make sure that the drain pipe threaded into the bottom of the radiator is tight, I just had mine fall out while brush hogging.
good luck.
