i have a 1950 farmall M i am wondering if you can use a fast hitch off of a 460 and put it on my M. is it possible? i dont know alot about this stuff any advice is greatly appriciated. thank you
Jeff

Anything is possible, but in this case at least two things have to happen. The rear case of the M is not drilled for fast hitch, so you have to fabricate brackets. Also the hitch pulls from the drawbar attachment under the tractor, and the brackets are different on the 460 and M. The length of the underneath connection differs between the H/Super H/300/350/460 and the M/Super M/MTA/400/450/560. The fast hitches for the 460 and 560 are somewhat different, you would be better off with a 560 one. In other words it is a LOT of work and modification, you would also be better off with a Saginaw 3 point if you don't have good fabrication skills. There are however, plans out there that have been posted on this forum for putting a fast hitch on the M, perhaps someone else can help you out.

www.saginawcountytractor.com. I think the current price is $725 plus shipping, includes two cylinders. Located in Saginaw Michigan. There is no better aftermarket hitch. I have two, one on my Super H, one on my C.

I've had one tractor with a fast hitch, and I have one with a Saginaw hitch. The saginaw is better, by far. I think it is better than any OEM hitch I have seen.

I'm usually just a silent observer and don't type much, but I just have to add my vote in favor of Saginaw. I could not be happier. After the headache of trying to organize and install a fast-hitch on my 460 (which would even be bolt on), the Saginaw was the only way to go.

Noting that you will need the tele-depth system (or get a new Hyd Cylinder: $130), locating serviceable parts ($600 if you can find them), new hydraulic lines & fittings ($80) and a 2-pt. to 3-pt conversion kit ($125) all adds up to well over the cost of the Saginaw ($820, incl. shipping two years ago). Probibly cost more now, but still a better pocket book and headache free choice.

Plus, unless you have a pile of Fast Hitch equipment already, you will spend YEARS looking and looking to find what you need.

3pt hitch equipment, both new and used, is readily available. The used stuff can be had pretty cheap sometimes.

The only thing the Saginaw doesn't give you is draft sensing for plowing. Then again, the Tel-a-depth system on the 460/560 hitch wasn't anything to write home about either. If your ground is fairly consistent, you can just set it and forget it, but plowing with a Saginaw hitch can be an exercise in frustration.
