Fastenal shipping

Anybody ever shipped anything through Fastenal before? I’m trying to make a deal on some tractor parts 1,000 miles away and am trying to understand the process. I’ve already filled out a quote form and got a quote back (300 lb pallet going 1,000 miles for $160), but want to know what to expect from here.

You do realize that it is at there ,convenience it is not like a truck line coming tomorrow , if one is in no hurry it is the best thing going, as long as there nearest store is reasonable close

Make sure that the seller is okay with the shipping arrangement to palletize the shipment and take it to the Fastenal store. The shipping must be prepaid either by the seller or buyer at the shipping point as I recall. It has always worked out fine for me.

I have shipped that way several times. Havent since the stupidness, the local one looks like locked up like Fort Knox. Have to email orders, comercial accounts only, have to pickup in outside box like amazon uses.

It’s a narrow front for an Oliver 1850. Probably won’t install until this fall, I’ve got time.

Our local one is locked up like that too. Only bad part is our local one that is 10 miles from the house doesn’t take shipments, I have to go to the next one 40 miles away.

Do they even offer shipping anymore? Last I knew Fastenal no longer accepts walk-in customers at their stores. Delivery only. They weren't getting enough walk-in traffic to justify staffing the stores full-time.

We have shipped with Fastenal many times! Great service, fairy quick delivery. Local store isn't open to the general public but they always answer the phone and will tell me when to drop a pallet off. We are very careful to keep the parts on the pallet, not sticking off anywhere. We strap everything to the pallet, then shrink wrap it numerous times. We also tape copies of the shipping instructions on to the wrap. And the buyers name and store it's shipped to. We have shipped several Farmall super A planters, including the big fertilizer hoppers, never any damage. ........ Very pleased with the service they offer.

I have used Fastenal and they have their advantages and disadvantages.
Advantage: They are usually cheaper than FedEx.
Disadvantages: Unlike FedEx, where tracking tells you the exact day it will be delivered, Fastenal somewhat keeps you in the dark. You know when a Fastenal gets shipped, but that's about it. Also, I've not experienced this myself, but the last time I looked at their web site, it states that not every American Fastenal can ship to every other Fastenal store, unlike FedEx, UPS or USPS that can ship anywhere.
The "my store is not open to the public" statement must be regional, as my local store takes walk-ins.

I only used them once, back in about 2010 or so. A Millermatic 200 welder from San Diego to Pensacola, FL.
Back before they stopped shipping across the great plains. Was cheap to ship.
And the best part was the Pensacola Fastenal local store delivered it to where I was working as they supplied us with fasteners.
We put our pickups back to back and slid it across.
The seller had it on a standard pallet and after strapped down used five 2x4's to create a "pup tent" frame on the pallet.
Doing so insured nothing would be stacked on top by Fastenal.

And yes, it was not a fast shipment, if they have room on the right truck, it gets shipped. It might sit in a depot or two before going again.
But at that time you could call in and get an update on location.

They still do at certain stores. Our local Fastenal is awful, they are on lockdown. You can go there and beat on the glass door and they will just stare at you. You can call them though while standing there and tell them you have an account and they will come open it. We do have an account and the last times I was in there I asked why they even have a showroom. I think all they want to do is do big deliveries to local factories. At my day job I frequent said factories and they all have those Fastenal vending machines.

I basically don’t go there anymore, TSC has a better selection of bolts at cheaper prices. I can go there and they can order me stuff (because they keep hardly anything in stock), but with the internet I can do that and have it come right to my house.

They are giving a good price for shipping though, 300 lb pallet going 1,000 miles for $160. The only downside is my local Fastenal that stays locked up won’t accept it for some reason, I’ve got to pick it up at another one 40 miles away.

I have used Fastenal in the past.My local satelite store here in town was always very helpful, but they had no forklift. My 350 pound pallet had arrived, but it was dropped off a power liftgate.I never knew they didn't have a forklift until that time.It wasn't a big deal to me,as I had a slideback car hauler.(ramp truck in other parts of the country)The driver was going to take it to the bigger store, about 15 miles away because they did have a forklift to load me.But,the guys in my store knew me,and told the driver that I could deal with it.

About the time they opened a store here they were starting to reduce walk in customers and go to accounts only. I got there a few times and it was a great place with good people.

I can understand the different resources needed for commercial big delivery accounts vs walk in I want to spend $4.87 on something retail.

It’s a shame tho as it was a really nice option as I search for parts to keep the farm going.

I wasn’t sure if they still did the shipping, goid to hear it is still going.

Last time I was in there they told me they would not take cash for as than dollar item . I told the guy working there apparently they didn't want my business. Not been back since. I have no idea if they are around or not and don't care. they were high on things compared to the other local parts/nut and bolt places in town.
