Favorite gutter sealant?

I am doing gutters on my daughter's house and have chosen to use the ones that come in 10 foot sections and are pieced together. I will need to seal the joints and I see several different types of sealant. I wonder if there are any favorites out there?

These are 5" K-style aluminum gutters made by Spectra.

Thanks in advance

Bob

I've used all types including the high priced ones that are made especially for gutters and found out that a good quality silicone is as good as anything. I've found that the special gutter caulks will actually come loose and separate quicker than silicone. At least that has been my experience. The main thing is to make sure your joints are clean and free of any foreign material. Good Luck.

The silver gutter sealant that they sell in the same aisle as the gutters works really well. Just lap the seams, don't buy the connector pieces and just get the drops you cut through the gutters for the downspouts. Also, get the internal brackets that come with the screws, not the spikes and tubes. Pop rivet it all together. They usually have 16 foot lengths of gutter which will cut down on the seams.

Don't remember what I used, but the gutter joints have leaked almost from day one. I thought I'd done a good job on the joints, Lapping about an inch and a half, as I remember. I think I probably used the gutter seal sold near the gutter display.

Whats with the overlap? spend the extra dollar and get the clips that hold the pieces together. Then just run a bead of silicone in the clip and press the pieces in the clip. That what i did and have had no leaks.

Hi Bob, What are you doing?????Don"t waste your time/money putting sections of gutter together. Find a seamless gutter man to run the gutters off for you. You"re much further ahead. I"m in the seamless gutter business. For endcaps and miters, I use a sealant called "BOND". I"m not sure if YOU can buy it anywhere. I get it through my gutter material supplier. It"s the best gutter sealant I"ve used in 35 years. Next best would be the OSI, as mentioned in another reply. Stay away from the silicone sealants. Make sure surfaces are clean/dry.
