Feel a little guilty

Went out yesterday about dark to clip a pasture. Got to the back corner & noticed a golf cart under a deer stand of the neighboring field. Guess I messed up his evening. Leaned out & told him I was sorry & headed out to another field.

Not that I should, but still feel a little guilty about ruining his hunt.

i see more deer from the seat of a tractor than i ever did hunting. seems like the tractor doesnt bother the deer by us.

An old farmer friend of mine used to always carry his shotgun on his WD-45 when he was spreading manure during hunting season. Got a few deer that way too. Always seemed to be "spreading" in the lot up on the side hill next to the woodlot about that time of year. LOL

I would not worry tractors don't bother deer ,as I have had a dozen or so follow me around fields when working ground in the late evening during the fall

In Ohio it is legal to shoot deer from you farm machinery. It is ridiculous but here is what the regulations book says "All hunting from motor vehicles, expect boats and machinery being used in farming operations is prohibited."
I asked the local game warden and he said it is one of the the loopholes that our wonderful state made in the regulations. So long as you are engaging in a farming operation you can hunt. So if your are our shelling corn you can have the 12ga loaded and setting next to you in the cab, when you see that monster bang. Just be sure you don't stop the combine when you shoot or it is illegal.

All depends on the area. If deer see a tractor in the field often it didn't hurt his hunt one bit. But if they only see a tractor once in a blue moon it may have hurt or helped his hunt just depends on what the deer are doing and where they are.

That's nothing. I was picking corn one evening just before dusk on rented ground. Jumped off and started taking a leak and there was a hunter sitting in the fencerow not ten feet from me. At least you didn't expose yourself!

A few years back I was bow hunting on a nice evening when I guy drove his truck right up through the woods. No road or even a trail, not sure how he did it. He got out and fired up a chain saw and went to work. I sat there about a half hour and decided my day was done. Lowered my bow to the ground, took off my saftey strap and started down the tree. Half way down I look down and right under me is a nice 6 point buck watching the guy cutting wood. Oh if I would have been patient. He walked off toward the guy cutting so I got down and walked into an 8 pointer about 30 steps away doing the same thing.They seemed to be curious about all the noise.

I agree with the others that the tractor probably did not spook any deere in the slightest. Neighbor of mine used to see so many pheasants while chopping corn silage he bought a scabbard and took a shotgun on the tractor. Said that the only thing that spooked the birds is if he stopped the tractor. You did the right thing, though- you can be my neighbor any time!

As a deer hunter myself I think you done the right thing by saying you were sorry. But don"t let it bother you. Deer do not seem to be afraid of farm equipment much at all, but stop and get off and see what happens. As someone said they are often curious as to the noise. My son shot his first deer just this week as it was coming out of the woods into a field of corn that was being combined at the time. We were in the stand when the combine showed up I thought good he may chase some out of the corn. I did not expect them to come from behind an step out in the field, but I am glad he did.

Good manners, but I wouldn't worry about it. When the snow comes on and I'm out cutting firewood the deer congregate about 50 yards away and stamp and blow till I move away from the tops. A hungry belly makes 'em brave I guess.
