Fergie Records

I recently read, someplace, a story submitted by a Fergie owner that included not only the recent history of his tractor but, also, its date and place of manufacture, all based on its serial number. I would like to find a source for this kind of information and I would also like to find out where mine was originally purchased, by whom, purchase price and the name of the Dealer. Has anybody else been able to find records with this kind information included?

My tractor is a 1960 Ferguson TO-35 Deluxe, Gasoline engine Serial Number SGM - 206405. I am attempting to upload a photo of what I purchased about 4 months ago. Brian

BL.
great looking old tractor,

if you are anything like me, you are just one piece short.

I have a tendency to run over things and believe me, you do not want to bend up your hood and bust a hole in your radiator. $$$$$

you need a good quality front bumper, first thing out of the box.
Just my two cents!!!

ask me how i know you need a good heavy front bumper.
plus, sometimes you need to hook up a wagon or trailer to the front of the tractor.

a 4 wheel wagon backs much better when you are hooked to the front of the tractor.

Max, Absolutely great advice. My very first trip to a nearby tractor "Recycle" yard included the acquisition of a heavy duty front bumper. Mine is a little different than yours and it is an After Market bumper. It has a 4" wide piece of channel iron as a bottom cross bar.

The gentleman had an original bumper of the same design but his price was $500.

If you noticed in the picture, the grill on mine was pushed in slightly. It is straight now and I have replaced the thumb nuts that hold it in place.

My tractor should be a near twin to yours when finished but without the Tail Lights, the Grill Screen and the Hood Access Panel on mine has been restored so that it now opens properly and it has a new chrome knurled thumb nut.

It appears your tractor has a Ferguson Badge on the front and Ferguson nameplate on the side of the hood. What year is your tractor and were these plates and the badge original equipment?

Nice talking,
Brian

my tractor is a 1957 model and it was originally painted beige and gray, but i decided one day to paint it red, so it would look like other fergy's

wish now i had kept it beige, but water under the bridge now.

other than the color, fergy made a few changed to hood, etc: each year, but basically its the same tractor as yours, yours will have a few improvements.

I put the orange flashing lights on the tractor as i am on the road some and the cars/trucks will try to run over you.

I have the plow that came with the tractor new and the owners manual. will copy pictures if i can.

good luck with your tractor!!!!

note: the manual that came with our tractor is for a early 1956 model, they were painted beige and green, so i have kept this manual under wraps, a bit rare.

Good suggestion on the bumper! My TO30 has a bumper similar to that. The mounting bars have been lengthened somewhat but it still interferes with the hood flipping forward, but I can live with that.

I can only answer your inquiries with this -records are probably all long gone. Dealers kept a copy of your original invoice for their records to use for warranty issues, etc. After 7 years they could dispose of them. Most, if not all Ferguson dealers are long out of business anyway, so attempts to locate one might prove futile. Even if the business is still at the same location today, it might be a Kubota dealer, or, with any luck, a Massey-Ferguson dealer. Most stories from owners like this are because the owner inherited the tractor from family and/or has the original paperwork to support the transaction from whomever he bought the tractor from. I'm a Ford owner and have gone through this many times. I was fortunate to have inherited my Grandfathers' early 9N and own an early 8N as well of which I am the 2nd owner.

As far as production of your TO tractor -Ferguson Park, built in Detroit on Southfield Road, in 1947 after the split from Ford, competed with the Ford 8N for market and was very successful. The factory produced ALL TO Model tractors for US/Canada market and other countries as well. The factory became Massey-Ferguson when that merger happened and the area eventually became the city of Southfield. The plant closed around 1983/84 for good. Hope this helps.

WOW, beautiful tractor and the plow looks great. Guess I'm a farmer at heart. And your right to protect the original owners manual.

Knowing your tractor is a 1957 I now understand the Ferguson nameplates on the hood and the fact that Red and Flint Gray are not the original colors. After having purchased my Fergie I found it was one of the last ones produced under the Ferguson name and with a Fergie badge I decided to restore it to as near original as possible. The original attraction was its double clutch that will be invaluable when clearing deep snow with a 5 foot snow blower.

Thanks for the comeback Max.

Nice talking,
Brian

My bumper isn't installed yet but you have confirmed one of my fears about the difficulty of opening the hood. For that reason I have restored the operation of the top access panel for basic maintenance. Thats a good idea to extend the mounting bars, I will consider it.

Thanks much ShadetreeRet,
Brian

I believe your scenario is what I am going to find but on the remote chance that somebody had found a treasure trove of old records I decided to pose the question. I purchased my Fergie at an auto auction a few months ago and I am soon going to try the tact of working backwards thru that dealer to find how and where he acquired it and then, etc. etc.

Thanks much for the comeback Tim,
Brian
