Ferguson TO20

I have a Harry Ferguson TO20 tractor (1948 or 1952, not sure exact year). The tractor has a 6' bucket - too big but I haven't replaced it yet. I'm looking to find out either how much this tractor weighs or what is the minimum size truck needed to pull a trailer w/this tractor. Anyone know?

Your TO-20, without loader is ~2000 pounds. Don't know the weight of your loader/bucket, or if you have loaded rear tires or counterweight on the 3 pt. hitch. I'd recommend a trailer with at least a 2 ton capacity, or more. A double axle trailer ~14' long, or so, with brakes, should do the job. Truck - a solid full size pick-up with brake controller for the trailer brakes. Most full sized trucks can pull 5K pounds or more.

Excellent reply George, except you forgot one thing? full size (FORD) truck.......... ok I"m ready hit me with all those GM replies.

I towed my TEA20 with 4 foot slasher (bushhog) 500 miles on a 12 foot double axle trailer with electric brakes, behind my 4 liter V6 Toyota Landcruiser Prado. The journey included passing over a mountain range and average speed was in excess of 100 kph (60 MPH).

Hardly noticed the weight on the back. But I did notice the changed fuel consupmtion, up from 11 liters per 100 kms to 30 liters per 100 kms. (From 19.6 MPG to 7.8 MPG!)

Centrally loaded (watch out for towing hitch down load) on a well balanced trailer, a 6 cylinder family sedan should pull it. Australia has strict towing hitch down load limits and total towed load limits.

On my Landcruiser Prado maximum tow ball down load is 250 kg and max braked towed load 2,500 kg. (750 kg unbraked towed load.)

You should not exceed the tow rating of your tow vehicle, a TO20 plus brush hog plus trailer probably as my math is about 2400+400+1200 = 4000lbs. My Ford Aeostar 4.0 liter is rated at 4500lb towing and I towed a similar load and did fine. If your Tow vehicle is rated at 2500lb it would struggle or suffer gas mileage and not be real safe.
The trailer weight is part of the equation, and a good trailer is heaver than you think.

I missread last comment 2500kg verses 2500lbs sorry.A truck 1/2 ton rated should be fine, my Ford Arostar is rated as a half ton truck.
