fertilizer mixes

my grandfather always had a mixture he made using guana (not sure of spelling) and manure along with other types of top soil. I have tried to remember his mixture but I'm sure he used the farmers almanac to do most of his planting it may have came from there a long time ago. Anyone have some suggestions as to the mix to try. I know I may be opening a can of worms with this one but I really would like to plant something this year using some similar mix because he always had a bountiful harvest.

Guano may come from bats, but also from birds.
there were/are whole islands that started from
a small coral reef, where birds nested, and over
thousands of years the droppings built up and
turned rock like. In some places hundreds of feet
deep. From the days of sailing ships men have
"harvested" the stuff, probably using slaves or
convicts, at one time. The chemical fertilizer
industry has taken over now, but I assume some
third world countrys still dig, and bag, Guano.

you know my grandfather wasn't very educated and pronounced it guanna as well as Tecumseh as tek-u-mesh so when I saw guano I thought "crap thats what it is" so thanks I guess he was just mixing different kinds of crap lol. he sure had a beautiful garden with an abundant crop for him and grandmother as well as 3 children and their spouse with around 11 grand children. I sure miss the work he had me help him with as well as his company we spent many days breaking his 2 acre garden with garden hoes. those were the days.

Its probably high in nitrogen like chicken manure
and we always put that on the garden and plowed it under. We use to have rabbits and we put all that manure on the garden too. Always had a good garden. I compost everything and spread that over the garden. It would take a lot of compost to cover 2 acres. I use a cover crop of barley

we only put it in the rows that the seed was in so it only took a little all this work was done by hand he never owned a tractor but I remember a couple times he had an old black man from down the road come harrow the ground so when we got after it with the garden hoes it was a little easier.The only tiller he ever owned was rear tined and hit a large rock and threw him hurting his hip so he put it in the shed ad never used it again. I was too small to use it then but when I got older I fixed it and tilled my grandmother a small flower to occupy her and her sister. Grandmother loaned it to another grandson and when the pull cord broke he lit it sit in the rain unprotected and nearly ruined it I asked her if I could have it and she said yes but my cousin said it was his so that started a whole lot of bickering between him, his mother, his brother against me so I told them I would bring it back to him but I wasn't going to fix it but it was ashamed the way he treated something he never helped grandfather with he is 10 years older than me so he was big enough to run it when grandfather got hurt. He then changed his mind and let me keep it I still have it and plan on restoring it when I get a shop built. Its a wizzard brand but it might as well be top of the line in my books cause it is the only thing I got of his after he passed.
