A painting of Great Grandma, Elizabeth (Cremers) Welters.1916. This was an artist’s rendition of a picture Grandma had. Her son Peter Welters was off at army camp in 1916.
She had ventured out west to Traverse County where her husband succumbed to Illness. She had returned to Krain Township with her son via oxcart to live among relatives. She was proud of her son being a doughboy and displayed the flag as she worked her land. Peter did not make it to the European theater and returned home to settle down and raise a family while farming and carpentering. Those traits were passed down and some of you might recognize the sir name from a family of MM nuts down in Missouri who would be 3rd generation of Elizabeth.
