Filler plates for corn?

I am setting up an Oliver 7300 combine to do some corn. The manual shows that cylinder filler plates are available for corn, but does not say if they are required. Do I need the filler plates?

We ran ours with out the filler bars in corn seem to work just fine, sure they would help but they will work with out them.

keeps the ears/cobs out of the cylinder, If you are going to do alot of corn or some every year I would find a set, should be some in a salvage yard

Depends on conditions. If cobs are soft and hard to shell off, put the bars in. If you want the cobs whole, and they shell fine, leave them out. On a Gleaner, keep the speed under 850 rpm- bars are clamped in, not nuts and bolts- don"t want one flying loose. Don"t know how the Oliver bars are held in. Filler bars are used only in corn.
