I finally got the old kingpin out of my 1940 9n today! It had the early style kingpin, and I've been fighting it for what seems like a month now. I don't have a cutting torch, so I had to go at it with a sawz-all.
I spent a bit of time almost every day over the past month working on it. Soaking, heating with a propane torch, hitting it, and swearing.....maybe 20 minutes a day or so. I bought an old pin from Hcooke and tried to use that to drive it, I made pipe tools to hit it from the inside, I braced it, I thought about buying a press, I thought about having a machine shop bore it out,etc.....Nothing really worked until I cut it flush and used the old pin to drive out the small end pieces still in the cast support.
I just wanted to say thanks to those who helped me along the way: Hcooke, TOH, and all the folks that gave me feedback on my ideas. I got a new pin, and after I have a shop address the little egg in the axle, I will be installing it.
I would be in a world of hurt if this forum wasn't here!
