Finally! Work done on my Super 55

Well, I posted a question a week or so back about converting over from a 12v generator to an alternator on my gas-powered Super 55. After quite a bit of hand fitting, I finally got the alternator mounted, tensioning bar modified, and the correct belt length installed.

Turned out to be more of a pain than I thought due to the fact that I had to work around both the loader frame and the loader pump driveshaft in every aspect of the modification, but it finally went together and is working great!

I have 2 original generators that are supposedly 12v if anyone is looking. I imagine they will need rebuilt, but they are complete and in decent condition.

When you say "supposedly 12 volt",question. Are the castings the same size straight through,all the way from front to back,or do they taper down smaller at the rear around the brushes?

I'll check this evening as I'm not 100% sure. It seems like there was a slight diameter change, but not much at all. The bolts that hold the housing together went from the front plate to the back plate straight through.

I said "supposedly" because I wasn't sure, and there's always the chance that being a 6v generator was the reason why I couldn't charge my 12v system, but it was running 12 volt when I got it and the extra generator that I picked up, which was supposed to be 12v as well, looked exactly the same.

I know one has had a wire come loose from the internal winding "packs" (on the housing, not the core), but the other one seemed to be in good shape but never charged the battery either.

If they're straight,they're 6 volt. If they taper at the rear around the brushes,they're 12.
