Firing Order

Ok,,I'm not real great when it comes to electronics and firing order and stuff so here's my question. I have a Ford 2N, firing order is 1-2-4-3. Distributor cap has 1-2-3-4. How are the wires suppose to be ran?

run wires from cap to plug with the corresponding number, easy nuff.

If you haven't moved the distributor, remove the #1 spark plug and turn the engine over until the #1 piston is at top dead center on the compression stroke.

The remove the distributor cap and see which terminal the rotor is pointed towards. That terminal's plug wire should then be connected to cylinder #1. With the cap still off, turn the engine over to see which direction the rotor is turning as the engine turns over.

After you have #1 determined, you just follow the listed firing order and attach the plug wires to the cap accordingly starting with #1 and going around the cap in the direction the rotor turns.

this tractor has a front mount dist that only goes in one way. so that is not necessary.

Sounds like you do not know which cylinder is #1 #2 and so on. Radiator end of engine is #1 and seat end of engine is #4 so does that fill in the gaps for you??

I was told once while working on a stight 6 to remeber 15 too young 36 too old 24 just right no real relation to your 2N but I thought it was funny

The cap is 1243 if the rotor is going anti-clockwise.

Had an Air Force instructor with the same way of remembering the firing order on a Detroit 671. That was 50 years ago and I remember it like yesterday.

Not that I have ever seen but then I have never got my head in to one that deep either to be able to see
