For all those John Deere history buffs....

Can someone tell me the model number for the first series with the "wrap around cab"? Looking for a 70-80 hp model and just don"t know what to search for.

Thanks for your input.

(quoted from post at 02:20:44 12/06/10) Any chance you are talking about the "Sound Guard Body" introduced on the 30 series Waterloo tractors in 1972?

b&d,
I thought 20 series were built through '72 and 30 series started in '73

According to the production log. The last 20 series tractors rolled off the line in Feb 1972.

Maybe your production log is incorrect!!!!!!!!!!! Just joking Does it state what month the first 30 series was built? :) :?

I seem to recall seeing a tractor with a factory cab that was kind of like a sound guard but predated it by a few year. Maybe on a 6030.

Doesn't say. The production log ends with the 20 series. I would be surprised the assembly lines sat un-used for the next 6 months.

In the summer of 72 my Dad, brother and myself went to look at a new 4230. It was setting in the dealers lot running with the a/c on in the cab! All the people there were in awe. Looking back I remember we didn't like the looks of the new soundguard cab. Twenty-two years later that cab was still used. Iguess Deere had a good vision....

Yes, it was the same for us my dad, brother and I were looking at the first one at our dealership, a 4030, I was working on that very tractor last summer it only has 3800 hours on it now. We thought they were odd looking too, since then we have worn a bunch of them out.
