Fixed income and prescriptions

The elderly post brought this up- prescription prices.
Anyway, there are lots of new drugs on the market that cost way more than older generics. The drug makers give lots of "samples" to doctors so folks get started on them and then just keep on going on them. With the reduced prices now $4 and Walmart and others- everyone should be checking with their doctor about the lower priced alternatives. There are some new and better drugs than the old stand-bys but better by how much if you have to sit in the cold to afford them?
Talk to your pharmacist and doctor. Surveys have been done and doctors always underestimate what drugs cost.

I talked to my doctor about the cost of my prescriptions last checkup. As a result he change one medication and I switched to Wal mart for my meds. Cost went from $320/mon to $104/mon!!! He said he didn't realize the one was so high.

Absolutely gotta shop around. Was reading the news yesterday and it was discussing how much The FED spends on medicare prescriptions. I know my wife has shopped around and has saved a ton of money. She takes about 4 medications that she must have and 2 of them she can buy mail order for a lot less.

I talked to my dr about that and he switched me from one of the expensice patented combo drugs to the individual components, went from $135/month to $20/month on that one prescription.
