Floor jack recommendations/opinions

Need to replace the twenty year old Craftsman floor jack. I have been looking at the Northern tool site. Would like to stay around the $100.00+/_ range. Read some of the reviews but there are none on the black Hawk ones. Any good or bad experiances. Any other ones worth considering? Craftsman ect. Not needing a everyday use one but don't want to waste money on junk either. Thanks in advance for opinions.

In that price range I think that you are in the Northern Tool/Harbor Freight overseas made market.

I have a Harbor Freight 4 ton that I bought a few years ago in about that price range. Works pretty good, no troubles with it so far. I don't use it a lot, just home use. It's fine for that use. I would buy another one. But if I was going to use it everyday to make a living with, I would want something better.

I have several floor jacks and the one I use the most has larger wheels, twist handle for valve control (up/down) handle is about 4ft long making it easy to position and control without getting under vehicle.Picked it up at pawn shop for $20.No tag on it for brand.

At work we use Norco jacks. They are madwe in Elkhart Indiana. and are very reliable. They are less expensive than leading brands , with the same quality...In ten years , none have required repair.

Norco 30 years old, starting to wear out. Will buy another if I can find one. Craftsman same age just as good. Good jacks used to be Japanese made. Most now are Chinese. I had a few of them not very good. Some did not even work at all.

Walker makes a nice one... I've had one for a number of years.. Works great, and rolls super easy on the shop floor...

I have a 1- 1/4 ton one from Harbor Freight that is OK but I also don't use it every day. I used to hear that Blackhawk had good stuff but that was years ago when stuff was made in USA. Now I don't knoww where they're made.

What's wrong with your old one? I just rebuilt a 20 ton bottle jack from my hydraulic press, and it wasn't very hard to do. I purchased a rebuild kit for less than $20 from an outfit that specializes in hydraulic jack repair parts. Don't know if your floor jack is repairable or if parts are available, but may be worth checking before buying a new one.

well they are all made in China have a craftman's and others and ALL are made in China and all look the same looks like one company makes them and every one sells them in there colors

One thing I would pay atention to is the pump plunger and how it operates. Most of the cheaper ones use a plunger with a long slot that engages a pin on the casting for the handle. It appears that after some use operating the handle to raise the jack causes the plunger to wear from apparent side thrust on it. It then starts to leak & also doesn't work very well anymore.

The better ones have a roller on the handle that pushes on the top of the plunger & doesn't appear to cause as much side thrust or wear.
