Fluid capacity on MF 50

Can someone tell me about how many gallons of oil will I need to refill the transmission and rearend of a MF 50? Can I use Tractor transmission fluid or do I use 80/90 gear oil? Bigramjack

Capacity is 8 gal. Do not use a gear oil. Use a
green mineral or GL 1. Originally called for 90
green mineral in summer and 80 winter. Mostly all
used 80 year around. Now green mineral is hard to
get. A gear lube will cause you grief in the hyd.
part of your tractor. Chuck

I'm now confused as I was before. I called a MF dealer today and he said to use a 80/90 weight gear oil. I went and purchased a 5 gal bucket and poured it into the tractor. Its not full yet. should I drian it out and look for the green mineral oil?

80/90 is fine as long as it is GL-1. GL-5 will attack the bronze and brass bushings in the tranny. I have had good luck with Universal Tractor Fluid, but most would disagree. Its kinda thin but not nearly so as Perma-tran, which my MF man recommends.

Oh, by the way, measure in 8 gallons and let it set. If you wait til it shows on the stick, you are going to overfill it. If overfilled it will push the dipstick out and make a mess in your driveway. Ticked off the old lady, I did.

NAPA sells GL-1 and TSC sells UTF

Good luck, Aaron
