Ford 1700 questions

tried this on the ford board and got no response:

couple questions on a ford 1700 tractor.The loader hydraulics start getting jerky like they are running out of fluid after the tractor warms up.the fluid level is at the correct height.And does the tractor have a diesel injector pump that requires yearly filling of a small oil tank.I do have the IT manual but because it covers several different models its next to useless.Are there not a lot of these tractors out there? I called two different local ford dealers and couldnt get a straight answer out of either of them, Thanks, Bill M.

Bill, the first thing you need is to buy 3 real Ford/NH manuals: Operator Manual, Repair Manual, and Parts Manual. Copy down all Model number, Serial number for ID plate on tractor and order the manuals through local NH dealer. Also get year manufactured from dealer. After manuals, next step is to change ALL fluids and filters such as engine oil/filter, hydrolic oil/filter, front final drives, coolant drain, flush, refill 50% distilled water/antifreeze with anticavitation additive, fuel filter and bleed. To get more specific need to know transmission type, 2WD or 4WD, etc. etc. Tom

[There also is a sump strainer on the side of the trans case near the rear. It's held on with four bolts and is circular. Ir's hard to break the gasket seal. Be sure to order a new gasket first. Most of these 1300/1310/1320 to 1900/etc are similar. Wash strainer in solvent and re-install. I think I bought a new one but can't recall.
Make sure you add the few ounces of motor oil to injector pump and don't lose the copper gasket.
You do need an owners manual.

One thing occurs to me in reading your post-it sounds like you have a leak in the suction side of the hydraulic pump. Start at the pump and work your way toward the suction pipe in the reservoir, checking all plumbing for air leaks. O-rings that get brittle with age, and loose filters are common problems.

Yep, you should clean the strainer in the rear - left side. Had the same problem with power steering on a friend's 1700 tractor. Problem is before i identified the problem her (non-ford) equipment dealer soaked her for $3000 for a new power steering unit...grrrr.

Adding a few ounces of oil to the injector pump, is this unique to the 1700 or is it necessary on my 1720? Mine`s an `88 and that`s never been done to mine, don`t recall seeing it anywhere in the manual?

Look harder.
I had a 1900 and 2110 and both needed the injector oil added. I am nearly certain your requires it for injection pump lubricity.
