i was running my tractor and noticed some specs of oil on the hood. the oil looked to be coming from the exhaust. how serious is this problem, or is it even a problem? thanks.

Gas or diesel??? If gas it could mean you have valve or ring problems if diesel it means you probably aren't working it hard enough and its not burning the fuel as it should. If its diesel run the pi$$ out of it and most likely it will clear up. Diesels need to be run hard or they will slubber

Old is right on. When I use my diesel 2000 I set it at 1500 rpm. and just leave it there. If I have to stop for more than just a few minutes, I turn it off, instead of idling it. Once mine starts to slobber, it seems to take hours to clear it up, which creates a real mess.

Yep diesels love to be run hard and put away wet. If you don't run them hard they will spit at you and when they do that its not good becsase they start to wash down the cylinders which can cause big problems down the road.
