ford 3000 -- serial number location ?

wayne in NH

New User

have a 1960s diesel ford 3000 and another 1960 gas ford 3000 -- regional repair shop not very helpful so far, say they need serial number - said rivited metal tag near transmission -- have checked both rigs for tag, cannot see tag on either one -- any help folks ? thanks

The serial number, the model number, and the unit number are hand stamped on the bellhousing just aft of the starter. It will be hard to see, and battery acid may have eroded the numbers somewhat.
The model and unit numbers are generally what you need for the purpose of figuering out what you have and how old the tractor is. The serial number is nothing moret han a sequential number...
You could also look under the hood for a tag there. The later tractors had them, but I doubt yours will if it's from the 60's.

Like Rod said, there is a flat spot on the bell housing right behind the starter and you should have the model number on top with the serial number underneath,. I know with my 59 671 D the transmission had been changed out as it had gold paint on it and the rest of the tractor doesn't. also had another ser # stamped on the opps side of tractor and that flat which i have found that they sometimes did to show the original ser# from the original tractor. battery acid had a bad time of eating these numbers up as well as a lot of built up paint, i think i had around 4 layers of paint in places, had two types of red, one of blue and like i said the trans had gold in it too.
good luck, Kent
