Ford 3000 with Holley carb - rebuild or ebay replacement?

I got the new eBay carb and it actually appears to be pretty nicely made. The fuel inlet fitting is something weird that I don't have, so I just ran a 1/4 npt tap down it and used the fitting from the old Holley. The only other thing of note is that the chole return spring is extremely strong and may need to be replaced. The choke (pull) may not stay pulled with that strong of a spring.

I still don't know if it actually works yet, I'll try to get it installed this weekend and see how it runs. I took the pics when I pulled it apart to tap the fuel inlet hole.

"The carb is soaking in a tub of carb cleaner. I'll pull off the bowl and give it a cleaning, but may skip the rebuild for now if it looks good."

Did nobody catch this??? You disassemble a carburetor before soaking in any cleaner.

That was the old Holley that was caked in crud. Drop it in the bucket for a few days to remove layer of crud first, then take it apart and clean it right. Kind of like hosing off the engine before taking it apart to really clean it.

The new "ebay carb" is installed and the tractor does start significantly easier that it used to with the Holley. It still doesn't fire up instantly like the old Farmall does, but I'll blame that on the low compression numbers.

I've pretty much decided to pull the head and give the cylinders a look. Valve job, rings & bearings at a minimum. The tractor isn't really worth putting much more than that into it.

Thanks all for the discussion and advice.

Thanks for the update. For the record None of my Fords fire off like my Farmalls. No Ford I have seen fires off like a Farmall I like my Fords, My Farmalls always amaze me they light up like flipping a switch.

I meant to take a video during colder weather, but this one is roughly 55 degrees F, cold start. I have been meaning to check compression, simply offering a comparison. I’m happy with the way this starts.

Cool, as much as I like those Holley's it temps me to replace it. My 3000 started to stumbled on acceleration I thought here we go again with a sticking accelerator pump. I noticed part of the gasket had slipped on on the big plug on the bottom that's a cover for the carb throat. I went thru my old carb parts stanch and found that gasket is the same size as normally used on a automotive choke thermostat. The stumble is gone life is good.
