Ford 3500 toolbox location

I inherited an early gas 3500 my father bought new, and have now kept it running longer than he owned it. One thing I have never figured out, however, is where the toolbox mounts. It was loose when I inherited it in 1978 and STILL IS. And by loose, I mean it is unattached to the tractor.

It is original, I'm pretty sure, and has curved mounting brackets that look like they are intended to slide under the heads of 2 loosened bolts which then get re-tightened to secure the toolbox. However, I have never found any place it fits.

This toolbox may be common to the 3000 farm tractor, but they are pretty rare in this tobacco land of old Farmall 140's (got one of those also) and new John Deeres.

The US 3000 series ag models with the clamshell fenders mounted the toolbox to the left fender, basically in the location to almost be a left arm rest.

The parts site shows the toolbox for a 3500 as being different from the 3000 series ag tractors, but the picture doesn't show exactly where it would mount. But reading through the descriptions for the mounting bracket and hardware, the "U"Bolt description says:

"U"Bolt, Tool Box Mtg. (Bracket to Seat) 3500

So it looks like the two brackets should mount to the seat somehow, so if the seat isn't the original one, then you may not have a place to mount the toolbox.

The parts site drawing for the deluxe reversible seat for the industrial models has having two extra brackets of its own for mounting the toolbox, parts labelled 13 & 14 here:

del;uxe reversible seat for 3400, 3500, 3550, 4400, 4500

Interestingly, the page below from the same site but for the 3000 tractor offers a bit more info than the 3500 page. On the 3000 fender page, there is an inset that shows a different assembly for the 3500, and that small image shows the short little brackets I have. The image shows 1 but I have 2.

I'm going to try to see if the seats are original. If the seats were replaced, that would be the only reason I can think of that the toolbox would have ever been removed. In my dad's work, a truck and trailer were always nearby with a large toolbox, so the little tractor box was not needed, but somehow it's stayed with the tractor all these years unattached.
