Ford 4000 front end

I inherited a Ford 4000 that I'm putting back together. If you are looking at the tractor from the front, It looks like something should bolt on in front of the grill, like a guard? There is also an opening about at the top of the grill. There looks like something bolts onto the front, like a hood ornament? I have not seen a good representation of this tractor, so I don't know. Can anyone help me?

There are a few possibilities for the front like a push bar, weights or loader frame depending on the history of the tractor. There are also different styles of the 4000 depending on year that looked very different. My '68 4000 has a loader on the front that bolts to the casting but there is no hood ornament on the front. The older 4000s might have had a hood ornament in that location.

Ford made two completely different 4000 tractor series, one with 4 cylinders and one with 3 cylinders.

The following assumes that your tractor has a 3 cylinder engine.

The front casting does indeed mount a grill guard or other devices.

The grill on the early 3 cylinder 4000s (1965-1967+) is two piece. The top part is a perforated screen with cast "FORD" letters bolted to the screen. I suspect that this is what you are missing.

I have a 1963 4 cylinder gas The hood/door that can be opened to get to the gas tank and radiator has a "half moon" bend in the end of it. The top a the grill also has a bend in it. When you shut the door, the two bend create a cirle opening. At the base of the grill are a set of holes, 4 in all that look like a guard or rail or something should be there.

I have a 64 Ford 4000, 4 cylinder and recently sold a 66 Ford 4000, 3 cylinder.

It's hard to say from your description but it sounds like the grill in your early 4000 may be fron a 58-(early) 62 8x1 series tractor.

Is this a row crop? The row crop versions have final reductions whereas the utility versions do not.

If it is a row crop, it will have a cast front pedestal with 4 bolt holes for mounting loader brackets, etc.
