Ford 4000 Injector pump problems

Hi, I am in need of some help, I just installed a rebuilt injector pump and injectors in my tractor. I bled the filters and then the pump at the little bleed valve. I have the injector connections loose and I can see just a little fuel dripping from number one. It doesnt seem to have any pressure behind it and obviously the tractor wont start. I am completely frustrated I have bled and bled the system again for the past few hours. Am I doing something wrong??? Please help!!!!!!

Is there a steady stream of fuel to the pump? No air bubble going into the pump? If not, you need to take care of that problem before bleeding the pump. If you have a steady stream, I don't really have any suggestions other than talk to the pump re-builder.
Let us know what you find.

I am assuming that I do, because when I open the bleeder valve on the pump and crank the engine I get a stream of fuel shooting about a foot. Is there a tell tale way of knowing you have a steady stream?

Thanks,
Warren

I am not familiar with the pump on a 4000, I have a Super Dexta with a Simms Minimec pump. The way I bleed mine is, I loosen the fuel line going into the pump and pump the lift pump to make sure the injector pump is getting a good solid stream of fuel. I then tighten the line going into the pump and loosen the lines at the injectors. I have a three cylinder, so I loosen three lines. Crank the tractor for short periods and I have gotten plenty of fuel after 3 or 4 15 second cranks. I let the starter rest for about 30 second ever 15 seconds, don't want to burn it up.

I have a CAV style pump and I believe I have done just what you said. Still not much fuel at the injectors, I will call the re builder on Monday, Thank you.

Which 4000 do you have 4 cylinder or 3? The 4 cylinder uses a RoosaMaster pump that is well known for not pumping out high pressure fuel with the injector lines loosened. When I have taken mine apart I always start the engine on ether and then the pump starts working and the engine smooths out. If you check back on this forum a couple of weeks you will see that TX641D just went through the same problem and he pulled his tractor in gear to get it started after having the pump rebuilt.

If you've got a steady stream of fuel shooting from the pump body bleeder (13 in the diagram) and you can't get fuel to the injectors... double check on the pump to make sure the shutoff bar is pushed ahead. If it is and still no fuel, you likely have a stuck metering valve in the pump.
You can probably free that yourself by removing the top of the pump, carefully noting the position of the spring and other small parts... lift the metering valve out and clean it, then reassemble.
Some guys do that with the pump on the tractor. I prefer to take the pump off. You could also send it to a pump shop and have them go through it... but will probably cost 5-700 bucks.

you should only see a couple of drops each crank. not very much and it will pressurize when you tighten it.

OK I figured it out!!!!! Everything I was doing was correct!!! My problem (as far as I can tell) was that my driveway has an angle to it. I jacked up the front of the tractor this morning and bled the system again. Right away I could tell a difference at the injectors. A couple more tries and it fired. Finally....... The angle of the driveway never entered my mind yesterday, just one of those things that you think about when you are 1/2 asleep. Anyway thank you everyone that helped me out.

The devil is always, always in the details. Thanks for telling the forum what worked for you. You must have had an air bubble trapped at a high spot when the tractor was not level or near level. How steep is your drive way?
