Ford 4000 unidentified housing hole

Hello.

Can anyone tell me what belongs in the hole in the side of the transmission housing? This is a 1964 Ford 4000, 4 cylinder gas tractor. It has a smooth bore and was clogged with dirt and painted over when I got it. What goes in here?

How about a deadman mounting position for the PS cylinder for those so equipped.

Mine has power steering - and a dirt filled hole with paint over the top ...

Another idea if this was an industrial version is a location for a grease fitting for a greaseable throw-out bearing.

Mine is a 1963 year model with no hole. Maybe someone drilled yours to use it as an attachment point for something. Canopy, tool box, etc.

Thanks Guys. Mine also has power steering. The hole is molded into the casting, so it does not appear to be a user modification. I think that I will look for a 3/4 freeze plug to cap off the hole, but I thought that I would ask for what others have done. I will keep dirt and paint to plug the hole as a last resort, heh heh.
