ford 4500 backhoe shifting problem

My ford 4500backhoe (1972) has a shifting problem. The shifter is a four speed H pattern. I opened the top cover and the shift lever moves a slotted bracket that is pinned in with two bolts on the side of the case. The shift lever keeps coming out of the slot and I can't figure out how it makes up to the bracket. Any one with experience on these?
any diagrams of these parts on the internet?

Go to the New Holland site http://www.newholland.com/h4/parts_service/parts_service.asp?Reg=NA&RL=ENNA&NavID=000001294003
and do a search by application. Each parts list has an exploded view which might help you.

I'll bet someone took out a wrong "plug" looking for the oil level..There are some locating bolts that run thru the case and go thru a hole in the shift mechanism.. I'll bet it's not in the hole where it's supposed to be..Drain the oil and remove the top cover and feel around for linkage that's not properly supported...

That was exactly right. The bracket had fallen down and the spacers were at the bottom. I put it together and it works perfect.
Thanks for your reply.
