Rod blew and put about 2-1/2" hole through block just to the right of the oil filter. Still rotates etc. but I assume that would be unfixable. I could get the 3000 engine fairly cheap so wondered if that would work. I assume the block is same length and can be used with the 4500 but I m not sure.

Yes, the external dimensions and all mounting surfaces are the same between the various 3 cylinder engines. That is why a single casting design with the same casting number could be used for the 3000 and 4000 series engines. The only thing you would need to transfer to the 3000 engine to work on the 4500 would be the cast steel oil pan, as that becomes part of the structural frame on the industrial 4500 model with its heavier duty front axle and bolster. If the 3000 series engine came off of a 3400, 3500 or 3550 industrial model, it should already have the cast steel pan, but all of the other models in the 3000 series used a pressed steel pan.

Hey Mike. I don't know if it will help but I welded up a damaged block on my 70ish 4500.
It was cast steel and I was able to put in a new section by welding short beads and letting the cast cool to the touch before proceeding. Also the beads were thoroughly peened between beads. I think there is a thread I did on this procedure a while back.

If that s the engine serial number it is a 4.2 bore block
