I would like to know if anyone knows approx what years the Ford 3 cylinder 201 diesel had the oil fill on top of the valve cover, rather than on the front right side of the engine? Is there any numbers on the engine that I can use to tell the year of it? It is a older engine that was put in the tractor, just would like to know how old. thanks j

Most likely came out of a 4000 ag or similar model industrial, anywhere from 1965 to 1975. The 201 was introduced in '65, and the front-right oil fill version came out in '76, along with the x600 series. There are numbers stamped in the oil pan rail (I think on the left hand side on the 3-cylinders). Don't have the book to decode them handy, but if you can find and post them, someone will be able to help.

Thanks fordfarmer. I will look at it tomarrow and see if I can find the numbers. I thought it came out of something industrial, because I could see yellow paint under the blue paint the company sprayed on when they put the engine in.
