I have a ford 5000 and am looking to add a 7000 to my fleet. Is the 7000 as good of tractor as the 5000? What are some things to look for? What would the value of a 7000 be? I am located in central MN. Thanks

I have the 7000 my Grandpa bought new in '75. Currently has over 13,000 hours; 4600 on a rebuilt engine. I posted the other day about 3-point probelms - if I have to take it in to have that fixed, it will be the first time (I think) since it was rebuilt that it will have had to be taken in for a repair. Think of it as a heavy-duty version of the 5000; same strengths and weaknesses.

The Ford 5000 in any configuration was in my opinion the best all around tractor Ford built. The 7000 was a higher horsepower turbocharged version. Also an exellent tractor either utility or row crop "7200"version.You want to look for one that has been well maintained.Check dual power versions to be sure they shift correctly and do not slip.Make sure the transmisson does not jump out of any gear.1st.and 5th.usually will be the one with trouble simply because it was the most used. Most of those units if they are in good shape and look good will command $7.000 to 10.000.It depends on how they are equipped, cabs, remotes, tires, ect.Very good machines with bullet proof engines if well maintained and the pump screw left alone.

If there was ever a better tractor built than a 7000,I've never seen it. I know of at least 3 in my area that have 10,000 to 15,000 hours on them. One of them I rebuilt the engine in and repainted a few years back. It is on a dairy farm and runs 7 days a week year round. Don't know a lot about a 5000. We had a small dealer in our area that just wouldn't sell a 5000 unless forced to.He always said that they were a big tractor with too little of an engine and always talked his customers in to buying the 7000.

think if it as a 5000 that had the crap run out of it.... The 7200 has a proprietary steering that you cant get parts for. so make sure the steering motor is good or you will need t convert it to a steering motor. 7000 need more oil changes to keep up as they were much harder on the oil and on the rings, so most are pretty worn out.

If you find one that has been taken care of, then your ok.. but look a bit harder at a 7000 than you would a 5000.
