Ford 5000 diesel was loseing power, almost dying while tedding. Dual fuel filter system. Pulled the 1st and found it had a bunch of crud in it; 2nd filter had none. Installed 2 new same model filters. Now I'm finding I cannot get fuel from the 1st to the 2nd. 1st has fuel; 2nd bone dry. Any ideas?

What brand filters? If the WIX type check to see that the seal is not inside the rim and covering the fuel slots.

Jim. This is the Amazon style filter I've been using for the past couple years. .Had problem with wix so switched to this style

Ok that seal won't be the issue with those filters.

Did you operate the hand primer to see if it would send fuel to the second filter

Which injection pump? Early inline has a feed pump on the side of the injection pump. Late models have the CAV DPA rotary pump that's GRAVITY fed, no hand primer like the early models have. Also sometimes the engine needs turned a bit so the hand primer will work, it WON'T work when the cam lever stops and holds up the lever inside the injection pump.

My 5200 needs at least a half full fuel tank to gravity feed through the filters, and then open, well loosen, a line close to the injector pump to bleed fuel through the filters and near to the injector.

Thanks for your input. This is a engine out of a 5610 that I added 20 years ago with I believe a Simms pump. Stupidly I had not tried adding more fuel, Did so last night and gravity did its job. But that brought about another problem as it is acting like its starving for fuel when you tooggle above 1000 rpm and then engine dies. Hand prime it untill you feel pressure against your hand and she will start back up. Any suggestions on this?

Simms inline system uses a feed pump. How is the gravity flow out the tank TOO the feed pump inlet for five minutes? If it's not steady there may be a tank/outlet valve problem. Feed pump MIGHT need replaced to if the valves inside have failed. Check for a supply restriction first.
